In autumn 1991, a leading landscape & snow removal company in Ontario, Canada, saw the need to increase productivity and efficiency on the job. Eventually, it founded Ledex Industries for the purpose of creating more effective snow & ice control products.

The first Avalanche product was a pull-behind box plow (or drag box). It was pulled by large agricultural tractors with a draw bar or three-point hitch. The cutting edge was made from a natural rubber compound originally developed by a leading tire manufacturer. Soon after, steel cutting edges were also used on the drag boxes. The use of Avalanche drag boxes achieved huge timesavings and productivity jumped 5-fold.

Soon after, Ledex adapted the Avalanche to a new application. It was designed to connect to wheel loaders and pushed by means of a bucket-mount receiver. This box plow, also known as a snow pusher, proved to be an excellent productivity tool. As a result, Avalanche released models to fit backhoes and skid steers. By the following year, Avalanche made models for dump trucks, 4x4s, compact tractors, and forklifts. But development continued. The specially formulated rubber edge worked admirably in fluffy and slushy snow conditions. Yet, something more was needed for clearing icy and hard packed snow.

In 2002, after moving to a larger plant, Avalanche introduced the first steel trip edge box plow. Customers quickly saw the value of owning steel trip edge units to clear icy, hard packed snow areas. They now had more choice, and they could effectively handle all snow conditions. Avalanche continued to enhance and refine the steel trip edge plows. They have steadily grown in popularity to the point where theyıre the box plow of choice among contractors and agencies in North America and Europe.

In summer 2005, Avalanche proudly introduced the Road Plow. This steel trip edge angle plow is tailored to the needs of municipal customers. With one side panel, the Road Plow efficiently discharges snow to the shoulders of streets. It offers a high quality, low cost alternative to specialized equipment. Public Works departments that needed to clear snow only a few times a year, and had machines sitting unused for that time, welcomed this attachment. They could stretch their budgets by putting underutilized equipment to work.

Avalanche kept listening to customers. In early 2006, Avalanche proudly released the Dump Box Spreader. This innovative, hydraulic-powered spreader, enabled customers to use their dump trucks to spread salt & sand without changing dump bodies. Customers are profiting from Avalanche quality in areas beyond plowing.
